Its completely unrelated to embroidery, but it is hysterical. On the Livejournal customers suck, there was a story about a woman who tried to tazer a drive thru clerk because he forgot her mustard.

This is wonderful! Entitlement runs rampant in our country and too many people must 'fear for thier lives' in drive thru.

It's time.... to break into quilting

Tonight, my friends, I am excited to share with you that I am going to be attempting quilting. Of course, crazy quilt attracts me most with its carefree beauty. I likely will be embroidering all of these pieces!

I would like to let you know about the giveaway! In order to get an entry, follow these steps:
1 - Follow this blog!
2 - Tweet about the giveaway on Twitter if you have one!
3- Post a comment here about a favorite item in my store!

I am happy to have listed two more head bands!

I also finished the 'Mother' piece. It was supposed to be for my mother, but I sewed something else. Now I stare at it and wonder what it should become. I'm temped to put it in a new hoop and sell it as I've seen others do!

Gift Wrapping Virtual Chat

Hello!

Are you planning on attending the gift wrapping virtual chat on Etsy? I have yet to actually make it to one of these official chats, mostly because 1:30 on a Tuesday is really inconvenient. I have Monday off for school/once a week date night, so work usually schedules me on Tuesday.

Do you like these virtual chats? They seem very structured, like the sims chat that I use to attend where the creators shared ideas on upcoming SIMS 2 games. I never really like those chats much at all!

Let me know if you attend- and if anything good is shared!

Hello,
I'm sitting down after work (an easy 5 hour day, woo!) and I logged in to check my Etsy. I almost never check the storque (I'm not quitting my day job or flying to France to source my materials, kthnx) and I actually found an interesting article.

Daily Worth: Profits Come From Business Models, Not Ideas

http://www.etsy.com/storque/how-to/daily-worth-profits-come-from-business-models-not-ideas-8100/?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Profits+Come+From+Business+Models%2C+Not+Ideas%26nbsp%3B&utm_content=etsy_success_051110&utm_campaign=etsy_success_051110

It actually seems to have some sound ideas that I can try. For example, a long time ago, I was considering breeding & selling betta. I was going to get a log for logging income and outcome (just like accounting class!) and a lock box where all my 'shop money' lived, so it wasn't eaten up by other expenses. Long story short and three years later; I still have my favorite two fish that I bred and two of my 'pretties' from Thailand. I never did make a business out of it; although now I am much more dedicated to make etsy work. For one, I can 'work the hop' without carrying 4 50 lb buckets!:) Always a plus!
Time to work on the business model!

Thirteen Craft Show Dos

I found this article on Etsy forums:http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6505690

I have yet to do a craft show (need to create a ot more!) but I find a lot of these tips can be tweaked to a smaller scale. What do you think?

Mom's news & Snowbell

Happy news, every one! My Mom is going to start selling on etsy! Here, take a look at some of her things:

Isn't she talented? She's making these 'walking wristlets' that you take with you when you go on a walk with your dog. Big enough for your keys, your phone, to hide those bags!
I'll get you her name on Etsy when I find out :)

I also finished the snowbell project that I showed you earier with the bluebell tutorial. Yes, snowbell! This is a snowdrop and bluebell head band; and I am dubbing it Snowbell :)

Its pretty rough, I haven't pressed it yet. How do you like it?

Head Band Day for Friday!

I'm going for it people. A full on, all day sewing extravaganza! I know, I know that you are all flashing back to last week where I spent forty five minutes at my work place waiting on my check and an hour at the bank to deposit said check.

Fear not! My nifty little sewing bag is coming with me with three head bands all cut out and the little four inch embroidery hoop my lovely mother gave me. I shall sew on!

I really want to buckle down and get these ideas out. I have a green flower headband, my bluebell blue headband and my paisley pink head band. I then have a new wristlet pattern that Mom sent over. Then there's my eye glass case project that I've been dying to try. Come hell or high water, somethings are going to be completed! Wish me luck :)

Bluebell Tutorial

Blue bell tutorial! These are stitches using a lazy daisy stitch. I like to think of them as 'sideways' lazy daisy stitches. The book that I learned from said to stitch downwards, but my daisies look horrible stitched downwards. I always pull the ribbon through to the front of the fabric, then make a little 'c' loop with the ribbon before placing the needle and pulling the ribbon through.

^ You want a nice curl like this to the ribbon. You'll want to try to get a little upturned curl on the end, if you can. Once the 'c' is made, you want to bring your needle up very close to the upturned 'c', careful not to pull the ribbon and pull the 'c' through. You'll be placing the 'straight stitch' part of the lazy daisy right over that curl.

Like so ^ I usually do under, it doesn't matter as long as you tack it.

You then bring the ribbon up so that you'll place a second loop right next to the first, going the opposite direction. I cheat and use my thumb to lay the ribbon where I want it, then nudge it over with a needle for the lazy daisy straight stitch.

Tada! I don't know why this is sideways, but there's a bluebell! Congrats!

Let me know if you have any questions.

The strangest day

Today, I was rejected from the Blood Bank- my iron level was .4 too low! I did, however, manage to find my camera underneath my car seat! The tutorial shall go on!

I do have a question for my fellow embroidery people- where do you get your frames? I'm framing the garden piece and it was the darneset thing to get the right sized frame. Next time, I'll know to measure the embroidery that I wish to frame!
^The next embroidery project. These are at my Mom's place, so I will embroider it for her; although not in time for Mother's Day!

Charity

Hello!

I could use your help tonight. I'm trying to figure out which charity to support. Do you support a charity? Can you share which charity that you support?

The Pattern nears completion

This is the pattern that I posted for you a few days ago. I have been poking away at it and now it looks like this:

You can see that the connected Xs are sprays of prim roses and the slanted and straight lines on the edges are open orchids. The aster was added on spontaneously. Sadly, I have no floss the color of stone for the background. I will have to go out and scare some up tomorrow!

Now I am going to practice some embroidery- specifically, the blue bell. This was my first attempt at it and I am not very happy. The top most flower looks very sloppy, in my opinion. What do you think?

Showcase slot

It is with some dread that I realized today is the first of May. Two weeks ago, I purchased a showcase slot for today, thinking that I'd have plenty of time to sew! I'm embarrassed to say that not one new item was listed on Etsy. I was hoping to scoot home and finish the purse; but work had me stay late and ensured I'd have to battle rush hour traffic. After all of that, I only felt like staring mindlessly at Hulu.

I have continued to work on the silk patchwork purse that is quickly becoming a favorite. I also taught myself a new stitch! My mom's mothers day present is coming along wonderfully! I'll photograph it and get it up as soon as I figure out where the camera went.

I am hoping to try to stitch a bird of paradise flower today. I'll photograph the process- let me know if its close to reality!
